|Target Version||Fixed in Version|
|Summary||0001290: Opening multiple projects simultaneously in kdenlive is unintiutive|
|Description||I recently noticed kdenlive is able to open more than one project at the same time. However in my opinion the way this is achieved is very unintuitive and awkward. I haven't seen any other program deal with multiple open documents the way kdenlive does.|
As far as I can tell the only way to open additional projects simultaneously is to refuse to save changes to the currently active one. This is so unintuitive that it took me several weeks of interacting with kdenlive to notice this was even possible.
|Steps To Reproduce||1- Launch kdenlive|
2- Create color clip, add to timeline.
3- Click New icon
4- When asked to save changes to document, click cancel.
5- Notice now there are two untitled projects open at the same time. There are two tabs on top of the time line panel, one for each project.
6- If you repeat steps 3 and 4 more tabs are added for additional untitled projects.
|Additional Information||Using svn 4139.|

I attached a picture showing svn 4139 with 5 projects open at the same time. Note all the untitled projects have the name "Untitled". It might be a good idea to name them "Untitled-1", "Untitled-2" etc instead.
When the document currently opened contains unsaved changes, kdenlive should show a Yes/No dialogue whether changes should be saved before opening, just for security (should it crash when loading the new project). Regardless of the user's choice always open a new (or the selected) project.
The important thing would be to never automatically close the currently open project when another project (new or preexisting) is opened. Leave it open and always add another tab for the additional project. That would make it behave like other apps that support multiple open documents.
As for showing the "save changes" dialog before opening an additional project, I can see the benefit you mention in case of a crash, but I can also see it creating confusion because in other apps one only sees that dialog when a dirty document is being closed. So, I am not sure if it's a good idea or not.
