|Product Version||Recent git|
|Target Version||Fixed in Version|
|Summary||0002293: Long interface freezes when stopping Playback|
|Description||If I select a clip in the project tree, play it in the clip monitor, as soon as I stop the playback the interface freezes. The same happens when playing the timeline. No Problems with only selecting clips.|
Kdenlive is not usable for me at the moment (fedora x64)
|Additional Information||Installed latest MLT, FFMPEG and Kdenlive version from Git. Also tried the build wizard.|
|Tags||freeze, interface, playback|
|Build/Install Method||Manual build from SVN|

|How many threads do you use?|
|I have tried 1, 2 and 3 threads. All giving the same result.|
I have made a short Screencap:
Maybe this helps: Openshot doesn´t show that behaviour.
|I improved things in svn rev. 5942, could you please test?|
|Hmm, unfortunately this didn´t solve the problem. There doesn´t seem to be an improvement at all to me.|
Okay, I have done a little bit of research now ;)
In addition to my Fedora install I have tried Kdenlive on the following Systems:
Ubuntu 11.10 (Build-Wizard)
Lubuntu 11.10 (Build-Wizard)
AV Linux 5 (As preinstalled on the distro)
Debian 6 (Build-Wizard)
On Ubuntu and Lubuntu I got the same problems as described in the Bug report.
Kdenlive on AV Linux runs as fast as hell, no problems here.
Same for Debian 6 (Although I had to compile Yasm manually because Debian repositoies are... well... always a bit outdated ;) ). Except of AV Linux where Kdenlive was pre-installed, I compiled Kdenlive with the same procedure on every system: http://mltframework.org/twiki/bin/view/MLT/BuildScripts [^]
And I noticed one big Difference in Kdenlives' appearance between the "bad" installs (Ubuntu and Lubuntu) and the well working ones (Debian and Av Linux): On the well working installs, Kdenlive showed up with a real KDE like interface appearance, while on Lubuntu, Ubuntu and Fedora it looks like some Clearlooks-Gnome-Like design. I attached two screenshots to the Bug report showing both variants.
So maybe this could be a hint what's going wrong here? Also AV Linux is a Debian based Distribution. So where could be the difference between Debian and Ubuntu/Fedora that makes Kdenlive work so well on Debian and so badly on other systems for me?
I have also attached a Debugger Output from a bad Kdenlive install on Lubuntu. I have only loaded a video file and did a little Stop-And-Go play.
Well, I´ve found the solution. It´s so f**king easy, but how could we know that?
I am using ALSA on my system. In the Kdenlive Playback settings I have selected ALSA as audio driver of cause and the audio device was set to default. This caused the freezes. Now I have set the audio device to my first analog output and the freezes have gone.
