I can't reproduce this. Stabilze - transcode works for me

kdenlive 0.9.3+git20130104.5794e725-0ubuntu0~sunab~precise1
mlt 0.8.7+git20130101.40125287-0ubuntu0~sunab~precise1
frei0r 1.3.0+git20121105.496b4ee6-0ubuntu0~sunab~precise1
ffmpeg version 0.8.4-4:0.8.4-0ubuntu0.12.04.1

ubuntu 12.04

camillem - are you using the default values for parameters to destabilize transcode. Because I was just playing with the show parameter using show = 2 (which is supposed to be valid) but this caused the transcode to crash. When I said I could not reproduce I was accepting the defaults.

Running with non zero show is not something that is that useful according to transcodes author.

whoops. Just read your report again. - "Leave the default options - crash"

So I guess that is not it.

@ttguy : I can't reproduce it since I updated yesterday, but yes, that was using default settings.
So maybe the best thing is to close this issue.

Yep ttguy, I think your bug is a duplicate of my.
With last version (v0.9.4 from rpmfusion repo in fedora 18), I get same crash (segmentation fault). I attached a bugtrace in my report.

vpinion has closed the duplicate with the comments "first stabilizers were not always stable, the latest one acivated in mlt & kdenlive is solving most issues"
I have a 30 Aug 2014 daily build of kdenlive so I looked in it to see if stabilize was working. But I can't find where it is now. Used to be in the "clip jobs" menu [^]
But in my daily build this just has "Automatic Scene Split" and "reverse clip"
Where is the stablise options now ?

It seems the daily builds don't include vid.stab library, neither in meltytech archives nor in sunab PPA...
could you update your scripts guys?
(I had difficulties to build it myself!)

The build script is updated: [^]
vid.stab should be included in the daily builds starting tomorrow.

The unstable ppa now includes vid.stab, mlt have been rebuilt against it.

@ttguy, stabilize(vid.stab) is back in "clip jobs".

So this is now a bit confusing. The menu item that appears now says "Stabilize (vid.stab)"
We used to have two stabilize options "Stabilize (vidstab)" and "Stabilize (transcode)" [^]

Now we only have one. Which I guess is fine. However, what is strange to me is that the menu item "Stabilize (vid.stab)" that we now have brings up the dialog that we used to get for the "Stabilize (transcode)" option [^]

What is going on here. Were the menu items switched in old version or are we really running "Stabilize (transcode)" version from a menu called "Stabilize (vid.stab)"
Doco on melt [^] talks about the shutter angle which was in the old "Stabilize (vidstab)"

So it would appear that we are running what was previously called "Stabilize (transcode)" from a menu called "Stabilize (vid.stab)"

Ok further looking I find the vid.stab home page [^] titled "vid.stab - Transcode video stabilization plugin". So I can see how vid.stab and our old "Stabilize (transcode)" are the same thing.

Would you consider renaming the menu item to "Stabilize (transcode)" for consistency with previous versions and to reduce need to re-write the doco on this?

I didn't go deep into this subject, Steve made that patch following Dan's recommendations on the mailing list, as other stabilizers are deprecated in MLT itself.

I think the best would be to remove the vid.stab precision, as there are no other options any more, no need to clutter UI with hard to understand info? I wouldn't let "transcode" as if is not exactly this software. Just an opinion, it doesn't matter much to me.

Then the doc would need a small update (thanks for your important work on this topic!).

You are proposing we just go with the name "Stabilize" for the menu item?
I think this is a very good idea. Because as you say we only have one option now and it is only for historical reasons that "Transcode" ended up in the name. So yes I think it should be just Clip Jobs > Stabilize.

@ttguy The more simple the less confusing, you're right.
