|I just saw that this is a duplicate to 0002963|
It is indeed a duplicate, but the original bugreport is closed, while this issue remains.
For me, the Speed effect cannot be applied to AVI files.
(I find it quite bothering since I have a number of projects pending because of this issue. I think that transcoding into mp4 all clips which I want to apply the speed effect is not an option). Is there a fix / workaround?
The bug was fixed in MLT's git. So you can either wait for a new release of MLT or use the development versions of MLT / Kdenlive by using this PPA:

Problem is still present with the latest version of mlt in the kdenlive svn repositories (ppa:sunab/kdenlive-svn)
I can't reproduce. Please try the latest version at:
Just take the proper artifact for your distro and don't forget to start with the script: ./start-kdenlive -n

Hi, difficult to reproduce with latest Kdenlive version Version 0.9.7 (rev. v0.9.4-118-g85b3d8c).
Kdenlive would not crash ; but take lonngg time to display thumbnail in project monitor view, and speed effect would not work (thumbnail from clip would be displayed).
Note that any speed equal or over 100% would work properly, seems like only slomw mo is affected.
When I load the clip in the timeline the console displays the following message :
[swscaler @ 0x7f93c9195a60] Warning: data is not aligned! This can lead to a speedloss
Issue is not present with a MOV or AVI containers, only MP4 (i tryed with 1080/30fps and 720/60fps and all same H.264 codec).
|Crashes every time a effect of Speed is applied to stabilized video MPEG4 from Cisco Flip camera (720p, 30fps). Can reproduce every time.|
Kdenlive 0.9.6 crashes with mp4 and mts files. Also picture freezes if speed <100% applied to DNxHD 220 file.
Seems like Speed at below 100% works totally wrong only in case if this filter applied to clip that has original framerate higher than current framerate of project.
For example. I have 30 fps and 60 fps files both in 1080 30p project. Speed effect (below 100% value) works great at 30 fps clips but crashes (0.9.6) or freezes (0.9.7) at 60p clips. If I set project settings to 1080 60p, everything works fine (except of that project renders at 60fps, but not at 30fps how I wanted) ;)
Please check and try :)
