|Platform||Linux 64bit||OS||Kubuntu||OS Version||12.04.2|
|Target Version||Fixed in Version|
|Summary||0003056: Use reduced resolution for realtime playback and effect processing during editing|
|Description||It seems that kdenlive uses the full projects resolution in its effect pipeline. So if I have a 1080p project setting the effect pipeline will process all effects and transistions with this resolution. Using proxies with a reduced resolution does not seem to change this. The proxy itself is at a lower resolution and will play back fine and fast but adding effects will slow down the playback and editing.|
If I change the resolution of the project to a lower resolution ( e.g. 480x270) the same project with all the effects playback in realtime and editing is very smooth.
The problem here is that some of the effects use absolute resolution values and thus mmust all corrected by hand to get the same effect again ( e.g. pan and zoom).
My proposal is to distinguish between editing/playback resolution and final rendering output resolution. You almost never use the full output resolution to do editing work, where the decision is to a big part based on the timing. And timing being the crucial part here it would be helpful to have a realtime display when working.
|Steps To Reproduce||- Create a project with a profle o 1080p@25fps. |
- Put 2 clips ( use a proxy clip) in the timeline so that they overlap a bit
- use a dissolve effect for the two clips
- add some cpu intensive effects ( e.g. pan zoom) to both of the clips
- do a playback
Framerate should be far below 25 fps On my AMD Phenom quad @ 2.7Ghz, 64bit Linux Kubuntu with 8GB RAM, NVIDIA 560Ti 2GB Card it get ~ 1 - 4 fps, sometimes even much lower.
- Now change the project settings to a 480x270@25fps project setting.
- Adjust the effects with the absolute values
- playback and you shoudl get realtime playback with all the effects on. This is the case on my machine.
