What format is the file you are trying to stabilize?
Because I just successfully did a H.264 mp4 file on 0.9.8 in ubuntu 14.04 64bit.

I was able run stabilize (transcode) on a H.264 1920 x 1080 from a GoPro camera. I ran the job on the proxy clip in the timeline. The job did not crash. However, when put the resulting .mlt file on the time line and render it the render crashes.

*** Error in `/usr/bin/melt': free(): invalid pointer: 0x00007f2bfc7fc330 ***

BTW stablize is supplied by the melt pacakge. What melt version are you on? Me - 0.9.0-3

this stabilizer is obsolete and not fixed anymore in mlt.
we recently switched to the latest (active) stabilizer and disabled this one, so run your stab jobs with daily builds or wait for the next version!
