|Product Version||Recent git|
|Target Version||Fixed in Version|
|Summary||0000470: Automatic audio and video crossfade by overlapping clips on one track|
|Description||Many audio and video apps make it very easy to create *and edit* simple av crossfades by having users just place 2+ clips overlapping on the 1 track.|
This allows for very rapid and user friendly adjustments without even needing to access the transitions panel - just drag and drop.
This can already be seen in audio and video applications including Ardour, Sony Vegas and others.
|Additional Information||You can see a quick demonstration of this in the screencapture attached (from Ardour), and this feature has also been requested in the forums at http://kdenlive.org/forum/2-ideas#comment-1878 [^] .|
While there are very similar wishlist items / bug reports, this one outlines the specifics both of the feature itself, as well as as a model of the precise UI implementation.

This is particularly relevant to Kdenlive, given that one of our main "selling" features is the ease of use (as compared to alternatives like Cinelerra). This is a very user friendly way of providing a request we've now seen a few times in a couple of places from users.
If someone else could acknowledge / deny this one so I'm not acknowledging my own requests. :)
Feedback, because I want to make sure that you want the clips on *one* track, not *two* tracks?
I think having them on one track may break the model Kdenlive currently uses, but if that is what you *wish*, then I am perfectly allright with acknowleding... :-)
|I used Vegas about 9 or 10 years ago. It uses one track for this. The blocks actually overlap, and you can see the curves for the audio and video levels dynamically adjust to create the crossfades as you drag!|
|Acknowledged - I am not sure the Kdenlive model can do this, but popular demand requires that we acknowledge it as a feature request.|
If overlapping on one track is not possible, do it on 2 tracks.
In this case, there should be an option somewhere telling "make audio and video crossfade by default when overlapping 2 tracks", because not everyone may want to have it enabled by default.
