Summary0000632: Pan/Crop/3D view
DescriptionFeature Request: Able to "see" the timeline/track/clips in a 3D view, so I can pan, crop, zoom, change shape of the image, aspect ratios, etc. Check how Sony Vegas or After Effects does it. I need to be able to do it in either a whole project wide, or just a video track, or just one clip.

Pan, crop, and zoom are currently the top of my TODO list, but I have no idea what a 3D view would do. These are 2D operations. This is not about rotating about any axis. The developers do not have Vegas or After Effects. If you can locate a screencast tutorial on the web, we can take a look at that.

There is a separate issue opened for applying effects to a track, but I don't want to look for that right now. It is a separate issue that applies to all effects, not just this one.

Here are some tutorials about the 3D track motion ability of Vegas, and some for its pan/crop one: [^] [^]

OK, this is what I thought. The 3D stuff is simply 2D rotation and skew with a fancy 3D ball controller widget :-) All of this can be accomplished today using the MLT affine filter, which is is not fully exposed / underutilized by kdenlive. There are 3 major shortcomings that I know of that I will be addressing:

1) zooming is not coordinating with the producer and scaling filters to maximize the image quality. The image is first being scaled to the project settings prior to being filtered in the affine filter. This will not be too hard and should be in the next release.

2) lack of interpolation for sub-pixel positioning and rendering. This is not critical for a static crop, but the image quality is lacking for rotation and skewing. And anything animated just does not look good at all, really. I might just integrate gavl to gain this feature: [^]

3) not field-aware for interlaced images. I need to investigate whether this is feasible, just extremely difficult, or what the trade-offs are vis-a-vis simply deinterlacing first.

reclassifying as feature request

Setting to acknowledged.

Basically it could boil down to : "add clip pan/resize to project monitor" which Ttill has started working on.
